What's in the box? CMG Praesidentia RAL

Just before I start packing all the Organization of Unobtainium Exporting Planets minis to send them off for painting, a few pictures of what they looked like when they showed up in the mailbox.

CMG Zas and Armies Army Commonwealth
minis for size comparison (left).
The regular infantry comes into 8-bots packs: two packs of regular rifle toting bots and one of heavy weaponed bots

I only have one of the rifebots pack (more on order). They come in three different poses. As you can see on the pics, they are somewhat shorter than you're usual 15mm human although their body is similarly proportioned only they have very small heads and no neck to speak of.

Same guys (right).
The heavy weapons guys come in two poses. One with a big flamer/fuser/plasmer kind of weapon and one with a sleeker longer (laser?) gun.

The second type of RAL is the Phase Shifters. Not sure what they're suppose to do in CMG game but they look like bulky apish robots with claws and jetpacks and I'll use them as an close combat and assault unit. They do match the rifle guys visual theme quite well.

Two 6-bots packs are available each again with three poses. But unlike the rifle bots, they require assembly (beyond just basing): arms and thus allow for some posing: the arms are separate parts as are the jetpacks. One pack comes with 8 pairs of arm, the other with 7.

So, what do I think?
  • Nice minis nicely thematicaly matched to eachother. Enough options to make the core of a small army. Somewhat uniform, but then again they're robots!

  1. I've always liked the Infantry Bots - real Star Wars Clone Wars vibe. I'm less certain about the RAL Phaseshifters, though. The digitigrade stance is so at variance with both the RAL Bots and the Praesentia themselves, that it just seems ... wrong. IMHO, anyway.

  2. I don't know, it gives them a "bouncy" look that, together with the jump packs and close combat weapons, kind of make sense... They're made for a different role, so the designers went for a different locomotion system optimized for that role.
